EDUCATIVE ACTIVITIES

The foundation regularly organises working days and courses on different aspects of HIV and related diseases addressed to professionals and to general population. You can see the Activities scheduled.

Moreover, we have the inter-hospital sessions and the teleconferences on resistances:

Inter-hospital sessions

The inter-hospital sessions are clinical meetings with specialists in the HIV field from different catalan hospitals. They are held periodically to share clinical experiences and present studies.

Call Conferences on resistances (CALENDAR 2009 at activities scheduled)

From 2004 we have been holding callconferences on resistances, a kind of telephone clinical sessions addressing clinical cases on resistance to antiretroviral treatment.

The procedure is very practical: the participating hospitals send a clinical case in which the most suitable treatment should be decided according to the resistance profile of the patient, clinical history, pharmacology, etc. These cases are reviewed by three experts before the teleconference: Dr. Jonathan Schapiro (Stanford University), Dr. Santiago Moreno (Hospital Ramón y Cajal) and Dr. Bonaventura Clotet (Hospital Germans Trias). During the teleconference, the participants discuss the case and a decision is taken on a treatment proposal.

This is a very useful recource, particularly in centres with few specialists in HIV, where cases can be discussed among colleagues. It is also an important pedagogical tool for resident doctors and trainees.

Call Conferences on resistances are organized by FLS and Fundació IrsiCaixa, and promoted by Glaxo Smithkline (GSK), Gilead, Janssen-Cilag Division Tibotec and Siemens.
