Together, we can end Aids worldwide. Our goal is to show that AIDS can be cured in HIV-infected people and we hope to achieve this or be very close to it by 2020.
Currently, our investigation projects are grouped in three major lines:
Our investigation is advancing quickly in the development of a therapeutic vaccine and also with Immunoglobulin (Anti-bodies), which would block the virus from entering healthy cells. The combination of these two strategies will eradicate HIV infection.
We are working to deal with the coinfection from Hepatitis and Human Papillomavirus, the toxicity from HIV and anti-retroviral treatment in heart, bones and kidneys, and the neurocognitive alterations associated with HIV.
We are investigating areas that could have wider applications in the field of medicine and that could benefit the society. For example, we are studying premature aging in HIV-infected people which could be closely associated to immunological status and the intestinal Microbiome.
